Brendan Fraser Seen on the Set of The Mummy 4 27 Years Since First Movie’s Release

The 57-year-old actor was spotted filming The Mummy 4 in London, nearly three decades after he first stepped into the role of the wisecracking adventurer in the 1999 original.

In new set photos, the Oscar winner can be seen filming scenes for the highly anticipated sequel. Fraser was seen as a seasoned version of his character racing a vintage silver-and-red rocket car labeled EPSA for a 1957 speed trials sequence, sporting a dark brown leather jacket and a white crash helmet. Some background characters were also wearing Rick O’Connell Racing tracksuits.

Rachel Weisz is also returning as Rick’s wife and fellow adventurer, Evelyn O’Connell. Separately, the 56-year-old actress was photographed filming outside London’s British Museum wearing a yellow polka-dot skirt with a cropped brown jacket and a matching wide-brimmed hat. She also sported gloves and carried a vintage leather briefcase.

The reunion marks the first time the pair have played the characters together on screen since 2001’s The Mummy Returns. Weisz did not return for 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, with Maria Bello taking over the role of Evelyn.

While plot details for the fourth installment are being kept under wraps, Fraser previously teased that the new movie will bring the “band back together” and return to some familiar locations from the original films.

“Well, we’re gonna get the band back together — the only way to do it, right? So, we’re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for for the last 20-whatever years,” Fraser said during a May appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

Fraser acknowledged that he wasn’t always sure another Mummy movie would actually happen, particularly after several attempts to revive the franchise over the years. But now, the actor is officially back in the saddle, even if getting back into Rick’s action-hero shape has required some preparation.

“What we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations… I should probably stop talking like this before I give anything away,” Fraser told host Jimmy Fallon. “However, I know that — please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

Fraser first played Rick in 1999’s The Mummy, which followed the American adventurer as he helped librarian and Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan and her brother, Jonathan, navigate an ancient Egyptian city in search of buried treasure. However, things take a supernatural turn when they accidentally awaken a high priest who was mummified alive centuries earlier. He sets out to regain his powers, unleashing a deadly curse in the process.

The 2001 sequel, The Mummy Returns, reunited Rick and Evelyn as a married couple and introduced audiences to their young son, Alex. Fraser returned for 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, although Weisz did not reprise her role.

The franchise was later rebooted in 2017 with Tom Cruise in the lead role, but the new movie did not continue into the planned series of films.

In addition to Fraser and Weisz, John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O’Connor are all reprising their respective characters. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film also stars newcomers Michael Johnston and Numan Acar in new roles.

The Mummy 4 will hit theaters on Oct. 15, 2027.
