The 57-year-old actor was spotted filming\u00a0The Mummy 4<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in London, nearly three decades after he first stepped into the role of the wisecracking adventurer in the 1999 original.<\/p>\n

In new set photos, the Oscar winner can be seen filming scenes for the highly anticipated sequel. Fraser was seen as a seasoned version of his character racing a vintage silver-and-red rocket car labeled EPSA for a 1957 speed trials sequence, sporting a dark brown leather jacket and a white crash helmet. Some background characters were also wearing Rick O\u2019Connell Racing tracksuits.<\/p>\n

Rachel Weisz<\/a>\u00a0is also returning as Rick\u2019s wife and fellow adventurer, Evelyn O\u2019Connell. Separately, the 56-year-old actress was photographed filming outside London\u2019s British Museum\u00a0wearing a yellow polka-dot skirt<\/a> with a cropped brown jacket and a matching wide-brimmed hat. She also sported gloves and carried a vintage leather briefcase.<\/p>\n

The reunion marks the first time the pair have played the characters together on screen since 2001\u2019s\u00a0The Mummy Returns<\/em>. Weisz did not return for 2008\u2019s\u00a0The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor<\/em>, with\u00a0Maria Bello<\/a>\u00a0taking over the role of Evelyn.<\/p>\n

While plot details for the fourth installment are being kept under wraps, Fraser previously teased that the new movie will bring the \u201cband back together\u201d and return to some familiar locations from the original films.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, we\u2019re gonna get the band back together \u2014 the only way to do it, right? So, we\u2019re going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for for the last 20-whatever years,\u201d Fraser said during a May appearance on\u00a0The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fraser acknowledged that he wasn\u2019t always sure another\u00a0Mummy<\/em>\u00a0movie would actually happen, particularly after several attempts to revive the franchise over the years. But now, the actor is officially back in the saddle, even if getting back into Rick\u2019s action-hero shape has required some preparation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations\u2026 I should probably stop talking like this before I give anything away,\u201d Fraser told host\u00a0Jimmy Fallon<\/a>. \u201cHowever, I know that \u2014 please wish me luck. I\u2019m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fraser first played Rick in 1999\u2019s\u00a0The Mummy<\/em><\/a>, which followed the American adventurer as he helped librarian and Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan and her brother, Jonathan, navigate an ancient Egyptian city in search of buried treasure. However, things take a supernatural turn when they accidentally awaken a high priest who was mummified alive centuries earlier. He sets out to regain his powers, unleashing a deadly curse in the process.<\/p>\n

The 2001 sequel,\u00a0The Mummy Returns<\/em>, reunited Rick and Evelyn as a married couple and introduced audiences to their young son, Alex. Fraser returned for 2008\u2019s\u00a0The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor<\/em>, although Weisz did not reprise her role.<\/p>\n

The franchise was later rebooted in 2017 with\u00a0Tom Cruise<\/a> in the lead role, but the new movie did not continue into the planned series of films.<\/p>\n

In addition to Fraser and Weisz, John Hannah, Oded Fehr and Kevin J. O\u2019Connor are all reprising their respective characters. Directed by\u00a0Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett<\/a>, the film also stars newcomers\u00a0Michael Johnston<\/a>\u00a0and Numan Acar in new roles.<\/p>\n
