Bruce Willis and Demi Moore were once one of Hollywood\u2019s most beloved couples. The two actors married in 1987, and for more than a decade, they shared a busy life that balanced blockbuster careers and raising a family. Together, they welcomed three daughters:\u00a0Rumer<\/a>\u00a0in 1988,\u00a0Scout<\/a>\u00a0in 1991, and\u00a0Tallulah Willis<\/a> in 1994. Despite the demands of fame and the inevitable pressures of the spotlight, Bruce and Moore often spoke about the joy they found in parenting and the respect they held for each other\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

By 1998, however, the marriage had come to an end. Their divorce came as a surprise to fans, yet the former couple managed to maintain a strong bond for the sake of their children. The actress has stayed a constant presence in his life, offering support not only to their daughters but also to Emma, Bruce\u2019s wife of 15 years. Moore also joined Emma in a heartfelt conversation with Oprah Winfrey about how it felt to witness Bruce\u2019s health struggles and what they have learned from the experience. On a moving episode of \u201cThe Oprah Podcast<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0Moore<\/a>\u00a0opened up about what it was like to watch\u00a0Bruce<\/a>\u00a0live with dementia.\u00a0Oprah<\/a>\u00a0asked:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow has it been for you personally to watch this moment, someone you have shared much of your life with and children with suffer from this disease?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Moore responded:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s difficult. It\u2019s hard to see somebody who was so vibrant and strong and so directed shift into this other parts of themself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Moore also shared one perspective of hers that has brought her comfort.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy particular perspective is, one, I really always say it\u2019s so important just to meet them where they\u2019re at. Don\u2019t have an expectation of them needing to be who they were or who you want them to be. And when you do that I find that there is an incredible sweetness and something that\u2019s soft and tender and loving. Perhaps it is more playful and childlike in a certain sense because of how much more caretaking they need,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For Moore, the key was to stay present.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important thing for me is showing up in being present,\u201d she explained, adding, \u201cif you project where it\u2019s going, it only creates anxiety.\u201d She also praised Bruce\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have so much compassion for Emma,\u201d Moore said, describing\u00a0Emma<\/a>\u00a0as \u201cmasterful\u201d in the way she has cared for Bruce and emphasizing the need for caregivers to look after themselves as well.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThere is no road map for how to deal with this,\u201d she added, acknowledging that \u201cso much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moore\u2019s words were filled with acceptance and grace.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you replay where it was and what you\u2019ve lost, it only creates anxiety and grief,\u201d she reflected. \u201cSo when you stay present, there is so much \u2013 and there\u2019s still so much of him there. And it may not always be verbal, but it is beautiful, given the givens.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
