Coronation Street<\/span>\u00a0star Julie Goodyear\u2019s husband has posted a new picture of the star as he shared a rare update on his wife following her dementia diagnosis.<\/p>\n

The iconic Bet Lynch actress smiled in the heartwarming snap, which was taken on her 83rd birthday on March 29 by her\u00a0husband Scott Brand, 55.<\/p>\n

The photo was taken at Julie\u2019s Lancashire home and posted online by Scott, who wrote: \u2018Just got home with my lovely wife and we\u2019ve had a fantastic day together.\u2019<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes from both of us.\u2019<\/p>\n

Julie is said to still love leopard print just like her iconic character Bet and regularly enjoys afternoon tea with visitors.<\/p>\n

Julie\u00a0is famed for playing the leopard-print loving Rovers Return landlady\u00a0for over 25 years, starting in the role in 1966.<\/p>\n

Julie Goodyear\u2019s last TV appearance was in 2019, as an interviewee for the documentary Coronation Street at Christmas.<\/p>\n

Mark Llewellin, who was the partner of Julie\u2019s late co-star Roy Barraclough, spoke about his regular visits to see her on\u00a0the\u00a0Conversation Street\u00a0<\/span>podcast.<\/p>\n

Saying: \u2018Julie is living a good life, really. She still loves leopard print, I\u2019m pleased to say\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I see her at least once a week, sometimes twice a week, and spend a few hours with her and have afternoon tea at her house, which I call leopard print boulevard\u2019.<\/p>\n

He went on to describe her as \u2018quite happy\u2019 and said how she goes out of the house regularly.<\/p>\n

He quipped:\u00a0\u2018I take her chocolate cake on a Sunday and we tuck into that, well she doesn\u2019t let me have any to be honest\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018She\u2019s good, obviously she has dementia\u00a0as everybody knows, but it\u2019s wrong to say you suffer from dementia, you live with dementia<\/p>\n

Before adding: \u2018It changes what you can do and how you look at life, I think Julie has been very brave and strong about that\u2019.<\/p>\n

Prior to this Scott, said Julie had\u00a0abandoned her trademark leopard print outfits and colourful lipsticks<\/span>\u00a0when he\u00a0opened up on the pain of watching her deteriorate.<\/p>\n

Julie met Scott \u2013 who is 26 years her junior \u2013 back in 1996, when he delivered plaster to her house.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0The Mirror<\/span>, he said:\u00a0\u2018I miss the fun-loving wife that Julie had always been \u2013 the larger-than-life personality that brightened up everywhere she went, and the smile that lit up every room.<\/p>\n

\u2018All of this is now slowly fading away and it\u2019s extremely painful for me to watch this deterioration.\u2019<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018Julie has always been extremely glamorous, going nowhere without her makeup.<\/p>\n

\u2018But now the lipsticks and make-up go unworn, and clothes are no longer of interest, especially the leopard print.\u2019<\/p>\n

Scott said that he misses the activities they used to enjoy, such as romantic meals and long walks, with the hardest being unable to go on holidays\u00a0together anymore.<\/p>\n

He got candid about the hardships he faced as Julie\u2019s sole carer at the beginning, admitting it was \u2018killing me\u2019.<\/p>\n

Scott, who gave up his career to be\u00a0Julie\u2019s full time carer, explained that he has now become aware of the small freedoms he used to take for granted.<\/p>\n
