By February 2021, doctors found a 4.5cm tumour on her pancreas and delivered the terrifying news.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4149 td-animation-stack-type0-2\" src=\"https:\/\/espn.newsonline.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-24-at-10.52.09.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1738\" height=\"1108\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"764\" data-end=\"884\">\u201cIt was one of the scariest moments of our lives,\u201d Adam admitted. \u201cPancreatic cancer often comes with a grim prognosis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"1302\">But amid the fear came a small glimmer of hope. Charlie was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease \u2014 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer \u2014 and her case was deemed treatable. She underwent the Whipple procedure, a complex and risky operation that removed part of her pancreas. Since then, she\u2019s been on a strict long-term treatment plan involving biannual scans, enzyme capsules, blood thinners, and iron supplements.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4150 td-animation-stack-type0-2\" src=\"https:\/\/espn.newsonline.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-24-at-10.52.14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1100\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1304\" data-end=\"1462\">Adam said the family \u201cwent through the mill\u201d but ultimately emerged \u201cstronger.\u201d He and Charlie, now husband and wife, have chosen to embrace life differently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1464\" data-end=\"1631\">\u201cEverything changed after that diagnosis,\u201d Adam reflected. \u201cWe made a point of spending more time together, saying yes to things, and focusing on what really matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4151 td-animation-stack-type0-2\" src=\"https:\/\/espn.newsonline.biz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Screenshot-2025-06-24-at-10.52.19.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1740\" height=\"1112\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"2001\">Charlie also contributed a moving extract to Adam\u2019s 2023 book\u00a0<em data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1718\">Christmas on the Farm<\/em>, describing the emotional and physical toll of her treatment \u2014 from battling digestion issues to facing the anxiety of regular scans. \u201cThe fear builds months in advance,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBut when you get a clear result, it\u2019s like being handed six months of life you thought you\u2019d lost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2003\" data-end=\"2239\">Gratefully, Charlie is now stable and not diabetic \u2014 a common complication after her surgery. But her words serve as a reminder of how fragile life can be.
