Karoline Leavitt rips \u2018partisan\u2019 judge over Trump migrant flights\u2026and goes after his wife<\/p>\n

White House Press Secretary\u00a0Karoline Leavitt<\/span>\u00a0took a page from her boss President Donald Trump\u2019s playbook and attacked a federal judge who ruled against him.<\/p>\n

She branded the judge an \u2018activist\u2019 and even went after his wife over her political donations.<\/p>\n

Leavitt\u2019s attack came after Trump himself called Judge James Boasberg a \u2018radical left lunatic\u2019 and talked up trying to impeach him after he issued a temporary order blocking deportation flights.<\/p>\n

\u2018The judge in this case is essentially trying to say the President doesn\u2019t have the executive authority to deport foreign terrorists from our American soil. That is an egregious abuse of the bench,\u2019 Leavitt said at the White House.<\/p>\n

\u2018This judge cannot, does not, have that authority. It is the opinion of this White House and of this administration. And that\u2019s why we\u2019re fighting this in court. And it\u2019s very, very clear that this is an activist judge who is trying to usurp this president\u2019s authority,\u2019 Leavitt said.<\/p>\n

She added: \u2018Under the\u00a0Alien<\/span>\u00a0Enemies Act the president has the\u00a0power, and that\u2019s why the the deportation campaign will will continue. And this judge, Judge Boasberg, is a\u00a0Democrat<\/span>\u00a0activist. He was appointed by\u00a0Barack Obama<\/span>.\u2019<\/p>\n

Then she brought up his wife Elizabeth Manson\u2019s political contributions, saying she has donated more than $10,000 to Democrats.<\/p>\n

Leavitt said the judge has consistently shown his disdain for this president and his policies, and it\u2019s unacceptable.\u2019<\/p>\n

Leavitt repeatedly said Trump had \u2018respect\u2019 for Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts, who warned publicly Tuesday that impeachment was \u2018not an appropriate response\u2019 for disagreeing with a judicial decision.<\/p>\n

Boasberg grew up in Washington, attended Yale Law, got an advanced degree at Oxford, and was appointed by Roberts to head up the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance court, which handles highly technical matters.<\/p>\n

A reporter noted at the briefing that while Obama elevated the judge, he was earlier a Superior Court appointee of\u00a0President George W. Bush.<\/p>\n

That prompted Leavitt to argue that \u201967 percent of all of the injunctions in this century have come against which president? Donald J. Trump.\u2019<\/p>\n

She added: \u2018Let me say that again \u2013 60 percent of the injunctions bipartisan activists in the judicial branch have come against President Donald Trump.\u2019<\/p>\n

Leavitt said it was part of a clear effort by \u2018leftists who don\u2019t like this president and are trying to impose or slow down positions.\u2019<\/p>\n

One lawyer, David Lurie, wasn\u2019t persuaded. He posted: \u2018Leavitt is trumpeting the fact that courts have enjoined many of Trump\u2019s actions as evidence judges are engaged in misconduct Maybe, just maybe, it is an indication that Trump \u2013 a convicted felon \u2013 habitually breaks the law,\u2019 he\u00a0wrote.<\/p>\n

Nor would Leavitt give ground when a reporter asked why the administration would not identify the people flown to El Salvador, who the administration says were members of violent gangs, despite posting images of some of them on social media.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are not going to reveal operational details about a counterterrorism operation,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

\u2018We have the highest degree of confidence in our ICE agents\u00a0and our Customs Border Patrol agents who have committed their lives to targeting illegal criminals in our country, particularly foreign terrorists,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

Without such a list, it is difficult to assess the allegations against the deportees.<\/p>\n

Judge Boasberg hosted a contentious hearing with DOJ lawyers Wednesday, and said he wants to find out whether the government \u2018deliberately flouted\u2019 his order.<\/p>\n

Leavitt spoke as lawmakers from the dominant MAGA wing of the House Republican Conference took\u00a0Donald Trump<\/span>\u2018s cue and made early steps to impeach a judge the president branded a\u00a0\u2018radical left lunatic\u2019 for ruling to pause deportation flights.<\/p>\n

The latest Trump loyalist to get behind the effort was\u00a0Colorado<\/span>\u00a0Rep.\u00a0Lauren Boebert<\/span>, who was not persuaded by pushback from\u00a0Supreme Court<\/span> Chief Justice John Roberts.<\/p>\n

\u2018I voted for President Trump, not activist judges!\u00a0Congress<\/span>\u00a0must impeach those obstructing the agenda Americans overwhelmingly supported,\u2019 Boebert posted on X.<\/p>\n

She got a seal of approval from billionaire powerhouse Trump advisor\u00a0Elon Musk<\/span>, who weighed in on an online post from the pro-MAGA \u2018Wake up America\u2019 account surveying the public about Boebert\u2019s impeachment move.<\/p>\n

Musk\u00a0responded\u00a0with an emoji signaling \u2018100\u2019 percent.<\/p>\n

Trump himself was unpersuaded by Roberts, once again calling Judge James Boasberg a \u2018lunatic\u2019 after a court clash with the administration, which\u00a0flew more than 200 alleged gangsters to El Salvador and said<\/span>\u00a0they were members of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua or MS-13.<\/p>\n

The president wrote on his Truth Social account Wednesday: \u2018If a President doesn\u2019t have the right to throw murderers, and other criminals, out of our Country because a Radical Left Lunatic Judge wants to assume the role of President, then our Country is in very big trouble, and destined to fail!\u2019<\/p>\n

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) called for impeaching judges obstructing the agenda Americans overwhelmingly supported\u2019<\/p>\n

In the last Congress, Boebert filed a resolution to impeach President Joe Biden for \u2018unconstitutional dereliction of duty\u2019 over his border policy.<\/p>\n

Earlier,\u00a0Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) said he would be \u2018filing Articles of Impeachment against activist judge James Boasberg this week.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Necessary,\u2019 wrote Musk on his X site.<\/p>\n

Legal scholars are already warning that Trump is violating the separation of powers by bucking judicial review of his decisions.<\/p>\n

\u2018This is nuts, what\u2019s going on in front of Judge Boasberg,\u2019 former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb told CNN\u2019s \u2018Out Front.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I think Judge Boasberg, who by the way is highly regarded and actually is the single most qualified judge in the country to handle the issue before him as the former head of the FISA court and the current head of the alien deportation court,\u2019 Cobb added.<\/p>\n

Musk weighed in on yet another judge who issued another ruling \u2013 this one against the administration\u2019s move against transgender members of the military.<\/p>\n

Trump tore into Boasberg and \u2018crooked\u2019 judges after a clash over the timing of his order to halt deportations of more than 200 people<\/p>\n

\u2018This is a judicial coup. We need 60 senators to impeach the judges and restore rule of the people.\u2019<\/p>\n

Sixty is the number of senators to break a filibuster, but two-thirds of the 100-person Senate must vote to convict a judge during an impeachment trial. Article III judges \u2018hold their office during good behavior,\u2019 according to the Constitution, meaning lifetime appointments.<\/p>\n

Roberts issued his stunning rebuke Tuesday after\u00a0Trump called for the impeachment of the judge who had blocked his bid to send people he said were members of a violent Venezuelan gang to El Salvador.<\/p>\n

The Justice Department blasted Boasberg in a new filing for running down \u2018picayune\u2019 details about the flights in an effort to discern when exactly the removal occurred in relation to his order, accusing the court of \u2018digressive micromanagement\u2019 and defending the decisions of a \u2018coequal branch.\u2019<\/p>\n

It called his comment a \u2018complete misunderstanding of the serious national security, safety, regulatory, and logistical problems presented by a fiat from the Court directed at pilots operating outside the United States and was made without regard to whether any such aircraft could feasibly be diverted or even had enough fuel to safely do so.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u00a0The latest court action came after\u00a0Trump attacked the federal lower court judge as a \u2018radical left lunatic\u2019 in a wild tirade on social media.<\/p>\n

But Roberts took the rare step of intervening and publicly slapping down the president.<\/p>\n

\u2018For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,\u2019 Roberts said in a curt statement issued by the\u00a0Supreme Court<\/span>. \u2018The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.\u2019<\/p>\n

By that, Roberts meant that if the Trump administration has a problem with a judge\u2019s ruling, it should appeal and fight the issue in court \u2013 rather than savage a Senate-confirmed judge in public.<\/p>\n

Any ultimate appeal would end up before Roberts\u2019 own body, in which\u00a0conservatives<\/span>\u00a0hold a 6-3 majority and have backed Trump in the past.<\/p>\n

The blast from the usually circumspect justice comes at a time when some liberal legal scholars say a constitutional crisis is looming, or already here, over a crush of court orders that would rein in constitutional authority Trump claims is his alone.<\/p>\n

Although Roberts used language that was legalistic \u2013 and did not identify Trump by name \u2013 the public comment came just a few hours after Trump attacked a \u2018radical left lunatic\u2019 judge who had issued a temporary order barring the deportation of alleged gang members who the\u00a0White House<\/span> termed \u2018heinous monsters.\u2019<\/p>\n

The ruling, from federal Judge James Boasberg, came after a fiery hearing where he demanded the government declare when it thinks his own orders on the deportations took effect \u2013 after the administration said the deportation flights were underway and over international waters when it learned of the order.<\/p>\n

Chief Justice John Roberts slapped back at threats to impeach judges, just hours after President Trump tore into a federal judge he termed a \u2018radical left lunatic\u2019<\/p>\n

More than 200 gang members deported to El Salvador from the US<\/p>\n

After Roberts\u2019 rare statement, Trump was asked during an interview with Laura Ingraham taped Tuesday for the Fox News Channel\u2019s The Ingraham Angle what he made of the justice issuing one.<\/p>\n

\u2018Well, he didn\u2019t mention my name in the statement. I just saw it quickly. He didn\u2019t mention my name,\u2019 Trump responded.<\/p>\n

The 78-year-old commander in chief also argued \u2018many people have called for his impeachment, the impeachment of this judge. I don\u2019t know who the judge is, but he\u2019s radical left.\u2019<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s billionaire DOGE head and advisor Elon Musk has also been rallying to impeach judges who ruled against the administration on federal worker firings.<\/p>\n

On Friday, in an extraordinary speech at the Justice Department, Trump praised Judge Aileen Cannon, a federal judge who ruled in his favor in the classified documents case. An appeal got withdrawn after Trump won the November election.<\/p>\n

Trump said of Cannon: \u2018I did appoint her federal judge and these fake lawyers these horrible human beings were hitting her so hard.\u2019<\/p>\n

All federal district court judges must be confirmed by the Senate in order to serve.<\/p>\n

Last week, a\u00a0federal judge in California ruled\u00a0<\/span>that the administration must reinstate thousands of fired \u2018probationary\u2019 employees.<\/p>\n

Another federal judge in Maryland,\u00a0U.S. District Judge James Bredar, also an Obama nominee, has also ruled that terminations of probationary employees was illegal.<\/p>\n

House Republicans have taken up Musk\u2019s call to impeach judges who have ruled against Trump.<\/p>\n

The ruling that set off the fury came when Boasberg issued the temporary ruling that blocked the deportations of more than 200 people after the administration invoked the\u00a0Alien Enemies Act of 1798.<\/p>\n

The White House said Monday that the people deported to El Salvador were members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, but has refused to provide the names of the people now incarcerated in El Salvador.<\/p>\n

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the U.S. paid the country $6 million to accept them.<\/p>\n

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Steven Miller teed off on the judge at the White House on Monday when asked about his statement that the judge\u2019s order was \u2018illegal.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018The idea that a single district court judge has the authority to direct, as though they were the president, the movement of airplanes around the globe is \u2026 the most outrageous thing I\u2019ve seen from a district court judge in my lifetime, frankly, going back multiple lifetimes.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the American Bar Association issued a statement warning against attempts to \u2018cow our country\u2019s judges, our country\u2019s courts and our legal profession.\u2019 It said intimidation \u2018cannot be sanctioned or normalized.\u2019<\/p>\n

The ABA said it would not \u2018stay silent in the face of efforts to remake the legal profession into something that rewards those who agree with the government and punishes those who do not.\u2019<\/p>\n

Trump railed against judges who ruled against him in his four criminal trials throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n

But in February and March, Musk began touring into judges using his powerful online platform.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are witnessing an attempted coup of American democracy by radical left activists posing as judges!\u2019 Musk wrote Feb. 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere need to be some repercussions above ZERO for judges who make truly terrible decisions,\u201d Musk continued.<\/p>\n

On Feb. 25, he posted: \u2018When judges egregiously undermine the democratic will of the people, they must be fired or democracy dies!\u2019<\/p>\n

The bar for impeaching an Article III federal judge is high. Only through a vote to impeach in the House and a two-thirds vote of the Senate can they be removed.<\/p>\n

Another House Republican, Rep. Andy Ogles, introduced a resolution in February to impeach Judge John Bates after his order to federal health agencies to restore online data amid a Trump Administration crackdown on \u2018gender ideology.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ogles, who issued a statement attacking \u2018predators\u2019 like the judge, a George W. Bush appointee, was unbowed by Roberts\u2019 warning.<\/p>\n

\u2018Respectfully, Mr. Chief Justice, both James Madison and Thomas Jefferson disagree with you. So does the Constitution. We are going to keep the impeachments coming,\u2019 he wrote.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
