Norah O\u2019Donnell said farewell to \u201cCBS This Morning\u201d Thursday.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell, 45, has been a co-anchor of the broadcast since 2012.\u00a0She will join\u00a0\u201cCBS Evening News,\u201d\u00a0as the anchor and managing editor, replacing Jeff Glor. In addition, she will serve as lead anchor for political events and contribute to \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"Norah<\/p>\n

During her on-air departure, the morning show aired a video that included a montage of O\u2019Donnell\u2019s interviews \u2013 including snippets of chats with the Dalai Lama, Prince Harry and James Taylor \u2013 and warm wishes from her parents and kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan\u2019t wait to have a before-school-breakfast,\u201d her son Henry told her.<\/p>\n

Fellow journalists like Anderson Cooper and Robin Roberts also shared kind words, as did the hosts of evening news programs for NBC and ABC, Lester Holt and David Muir, respectively.<\/p>\n

The compilation moved O\u2019Donnell to tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best is yet to come.\u00a0I think that\u2019s for all of us at CBS News,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Acknowledging her co-hosts,\u00a0she added: \u201cWe\u2019ve made news, we\u2019ve been in the news, but we\u2019ve also made friendships. This is the greatest team on television.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turning to the crew, she extended her appreciation. \u201cYou know how much I love all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat you should know is we are cheering you on,\u201d said Gayle King,\u00a0who will remain on \u201cThis Morning\u201d with new hosts\u00a0Anthony Mason, a senior national correspondent and CBS veteran, and Tony Dokoupil.<\/p>\n

\"Norah<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, news broke that\u00a0she and John Dickerson would be leaving the program\u00a0as part of a\u00a0series of sweeping changes at the network.\u00a0Dickerson has been tapped for \u201c60 Minutes\u201d and will also have a role in election specials.<\/p>\n

When the news was revealed on \u201cThis Morning,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said she would put all she had into her new position.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI was looking through some things that Walter Cronkite said, and he said, \u2018I can\u2019t imagine a person becoming a success in life without giving everything they\u2019ve got.\u2019 And so I\u2019m gonna give\u00a0this everything I\u2019ve got.\u201d<\/p>\n

O\u2019Donnell\u00a0will be only the third female solo anchor of a network evening newscast, following ABC\u2019s Diane Sawyer and former CBS anchor Katie Couric,<\/p>\n

The changes mark the first big moves by Susan Zirinsky, who became CBS News\u2019 first female president\u00a0in March. (A fourth \u201cMorning\u201d co-anchor, Bianna Golodryga, was relieved of her duties in April\u00a0after a six-month stint\u00a0and exercised an option to exit\u00a0the network).<\/p>\n

\"Norah<\/p>\n

She is aiming to reverse the fortunes of CBS\u2019 cellar-dwelling \u201cEvening News\u201d and \u201cThis Morning\u201d\u00a0telecasts, which for years have\u00a0lagged behind NBC and ABC in a distant third place, even as CBS leads them in overall primetime audience.\u00a0Ratings for both broadcasts have suffered in the wake of recent changes:\u00a0Charlie Rose\u2019s 2017\u00a0exit from \u201cThis Morning\u201d\u00a0in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations, and\u00a0the\u00a0naming of Glor, also in 2017, to succeed Scott Pelley.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
