Jane Fonda\u2019s hardly been a stranger to political controversy over the course of her long and storied career. Once dubbed \u201cHanoi Jane\u201d after being photographed sitting on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun\u00a0in 1972, it\u2019s fair to say she\u2019s had her fair share of public chastisement.<\/strong><\/figure>\n

The actress was also an opinion-splitting figure as far back as the 1960s, when she actively supported the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panthers to the chagrin of certain sections of society.<\/p>\n

This past weekend,\u00a0Fonda<\/a> was awarded the Screen Actors\u2019 Guild (SAG) Life Achievement Award, and used part of her speech to throw shade in the direction of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

With the current political climate in the US testy to say the least, it\u2019s hardly a wonder that many of the country\u2019s biggest celebrities are making their voices heard.<\/p>\n

For 87-year-old Fonda, Sunday\u2019s SAG Awards provided the perfect platform to make a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you SAG AFTRA. Your enthusiasm makes this seem less like a late twilight of my life, and more like a go girl, kick a**. Which is good because I\u2019m not done.\u201d Fonda said.<\/p>\n

Though she didn\u2019t directly namedrop\u00a0President Trump, Fonda referenced Sebastian Stan\u2019s portrayal of him in 2024\u2019s\u00a0The Apprentice<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough you may hate the behavior of your character, you have to understand and empathize with the traumatized person you\u2019re playing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The actress proceeded to then defend \u2018wokeness\u2019, stating: \u201cEmpathy is not weak or \u2018woke.\u2019 And, by the way, \u2018woke\u2019 just means you give a damn about other people.<\/p>\n

\u201cA whole lot of people are going to be hurt by what\u2019s happening, by what\u2019s coming our way,\u201d she continued.\u201d\u2018We are going to need a big tent to resist what\u2019s coming at us.\u201d<\/p>\n
