Her mother loved American actress Loretta Young and decided to name her daughter after her. Loretta\u2019s father was a coal miner who died of black lung disease at 52.<\/p>\n<p>Her family were poor by anyone\u2019s standards, and Loretta\u2019s early life was often tough.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLorettaLynnOfficial%2Fposts%2F537418621088123&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"496\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe winters were cold, so my mommy glued newspapers and pages from old Sears Roebuck catalogs to the wall to help keep the cold out. We didn\u2019t have money for wallpaper, but my mommy made that old house stay warm and beautiful,\u201d Loretta\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>She married first husband Oliver \u201cDoolittle\u201d Lynn when she was just 16 years old and he was 21. Loretta was a young stay-at-home-wife, and her husband worked as a logger to provide for the family.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLorettaLynnOfficial%2Fposts%2F469118294584823&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The family eventually decided to move from Kentucky to the logging community of Custer, Washington. It was there Loretta suddenly started getting sick in the mornings \u2013 but had no idea why. She decided to see her doctor, who in turn asked her to get undressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI just pulled the sheet over my head, like an ostrich. When he was done, Doc told me I could get dressed again. After that, he put his arm around my waist and he said, \u2019Honey, your trouble is, you\u2019re pregnant,\u201d Loretta explained in her book\u00a0<em>\u201cLoretta Lynn: Coal Miner\u2019s Daughter\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The news came as shock for the young and innocent Loretta, still a minor at the time. His birth story says a lot about the circumstances in which Loretta and her family lived. Because she couldn\u2019t afford to stay at the hospital overnight, Loretta headed back home just hours after giving birth to Jack.<\/p>\n<p>After her second baby, Loretta suffered two miscarriages. Unfortunately, the second miscarriage resulted in blood poisoning, and once again, she couldn\u2019t afford to go to the hospital. She managed to survive, but it was a close run thing.<\/p>\n<p>Despite it all, Loretta continued to fall pregnant. While expecting her third child, doctors said Loretta needed a Cesarean section. This became a major problem as nobody could get a hold of her husband, Doolittle; he was out working in the woods. After being at the hospital for days, Loretta finally delivered her baby the natural way, and everything went fine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoo called in from some logging camp and they kept teasing him. First they said it was a boy, then a girl, then a boy again. But it was a boy, and we named him Ernest Ray,\u201d Loretta said.<\/p>\n<p>Before the age of 20, Loretta had four children. As a stay-at-home mom, she barely went out (paying a babysitter wasn\u2019t an option with the family\u2019s estranged economic situation).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLorettaLynnOfficial%2Fposts%2F464712755025377&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"496\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>However, her husband liked to go out with his friends and drink beer. Sadly, he also went behind Loretta\u2019s back and met other women. But Loretta remained utterly devoted to her husband, despite his constant cheating, something not all women in her position would have done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI married Doo when I wasn\u2019t but a child, and he was my life from that day on,\u201d Lynn later wrote in her 2002 memoir\u00a0<em>Still Woman Enough<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut as important as my youth and upbringing was, there\u2019s something else that made me stick to Doo. He thought I was something special, more special than anyone else in the world, and never let me forget it. That belief would be hard to shove out the door. Doo was my security, my safety net.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoo was a good man and a hard worker. But he was an alcoholic, and it affected our marriage all the way through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The happiness and heartache during the early years of her complicated marriage would later inspire Lorettas\u2019s songwriting, so at least something good came out of it.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-99334 lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/05200743\/shutterstock_440185582-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"667\" height=\"1000\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/05200743\/shutterstock_440185582-1.jpg\" data-eio-rwidth=\"667\" data-eio-rheight=\"1000\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Loretta dealt with heartbreak after heartbreak, violence, and rejection, but she never gave up, and even channeled her feelings into her music, stating she never wrote a song without including her husband in her lyrics. Through her music, she charted his affairs, and even the time she attacked another woman who was interfering in their marriage.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0Loretta herself: \u201cIf you can\u2019t fight for your man, he\u2019s not worth having.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked why she didn\u2019t leave Doo, Loretta\u00a0once gave\u00a0a clear answer:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI put up with it because of six kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-99343 lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/05200740\/shutterstock_100229618.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"664\" height=\"1000\" data-src=\"https:\/\/cdn-main.newsner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2022\/04\/05200740\/shutterstock_100229618.jpg\" data-eio-rwidth=\"664\" data-eio-rheight=\"1000\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The country music queen stayed in that marriage until Doolittle died in 1996, at the age of 69. The loss was hard for her to bear, and her kids thought she would never recover from it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThree days after my husband died, I left Hurricane Mills and come to Nashville,\u201d\u00a0she said in an interview in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter bein\u2019 here awhile, I said to a friend of mine, \u2018It seems like I been here a couple months already.\u2019 And she said, \u2018You been here a year.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, Loretta was able to pick up the pieces and focused on caring for and supporting her family, including her children and three grandchildren, while still making music.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-loretta-lynn-children\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loretta Lynn children<\/h2>\n<p>Sadly, not all of Loretta\u2019s children are still alive today.<\/p>\n<p>Her oldest child, Betty Sue Lynn, was born in 1948. She was her mother\u2019s right hand and worked closely with Loretta during her music career. Betty actually wrote a couple of songs for her mom, including\u00a0<em>\u201cWine, Women and Song.\u201d<\/em> Unfortunately, Betty passed away in 2013 from complications to do with emphysema. She was 64.<\/p>\n<p>Loretta\u2019s first son, Jack Benny Lynn, was born in 1949. However, his life was destined to end tragically. One day in 1984, Jack drowned trying to cross a river with his horse on the family property. He was 54 at the time, and had a wife and three kids.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone thought Loretta would be completely devastated over Jack\u2019s passing; he was her heart\u2019s favorite among her six children. But it took a while before she got the terrible news; Loretta was being treated in hospital for exhaustion when Jack died. In 2021, on the anniversary of his passing, Loretta shared a heartbreaking tribute to her beloved son:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a spitting image of his daddy. He was my blond-headed, blue-eyed baby. Just what I asked for. He was quiet and tender. I adored him with all my heart. He and Betty Sue got into everything when they were little and I was a new momma,\u201d she wrote on\u00a0Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FLorettaLynnOfficial%2Fposts%2F366982121465108&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"744\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Loretta\u2019s third child, Clara \u201cCissie\u201d Marie Lynn, was born in 1952. She also worked for her mother as a producer.<\/p>\n<p>Ernest Ray Lynn, meanwhile, born in 1954, also followed in his mother\u2019s footsteps and made a career in the entertainment industry as a performer.<\/p>\n<p>In 1964, Loretta gave birth to twin girls Peggy and Patsy. During the holidays, Loretta was always reminded of what she lost \u2013 but also what she still had.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dI can\u2019t tell you how much I wish Doo, Jack, and Betty were with us today. My heart\u2019s never gotten over losing those three. Yet, I\u2019m so grateful for the four I still have\u2026,\u201d she said last year.<\/p>\n<p>Lynn suffered a stroke in 2018 and broke her hip in 2018, but bounced back to record more music. Still, she\u2019s often been the subject of rumors about her declining health: a report in 2019 said she was in a nursing home and near-death, which she happily disputed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, through the years they\u2019ve said I\u2019m broke, homeless, cheating, drinking, gone crazy, terminally ill, and even dead!\u201d she wrote on Facebook. \u201cPoor things can\u2019t ever get it right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, despite her old age, Lynn continued to record music, and released her milestone 50th studio album last year, just before her 89th birthday<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Still Woman Enough<\/em>, a mixture of classic songs and new material, was released in 2022, to positive reviews. Her death happened due\u00a0to natural causes.<\/p>\n<p>She is survived by four of her children \u2013 Clara, Ernest, and twins Peggy Jean and Patsy Eileen.<\/p>\n<p>Insiders who were close to the late entertainer disclosed that as her final moments neared, Lynn confided in them, revealing her most intimate secrets.
