{"id":4220,"date":"2024-11-21T17:29:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T17:29:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/freshstoryes.lol\/?p=4220"},"modified":"2024-11-21T17:29:58","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T17:29:58","slug":"heroic-uncle-runs-into-burning-house-to-save-8-year-old-niece-after-saving-nephews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/freshstoryes.lol\/?p=4220","title":{"rendered":"Heroic uncle runs into burning house to save 8-year-old niece after saving nephews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The tale of a brave uncle named Derrick Byrd is more evidence that not all heroes wear capes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is not surprising that the people in his village have praised this brave man as a hero for giving up his life to save the lives of his niece and nephews.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>There were six individuals present when the fire broke out at the family\u2019s Aberdeen, Washington, house, including Derrick\u2019s sister Kayla and her three kids.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3940\" src=\"https:\/\/www.viral-stories.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/A1-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"697\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Realizing that the house could easily burn down in no time, quick-thinking Derrick caught his nephews and jumped out of the window from the second floor while holding them in his arms.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes, his 8-year-old niece, watched her mother drop from the roof but refrained from jumping.<\/p>\n<p>Without hesitating even for a second, Derrick returned inside the house to rescue his trapped niece.<\/p>\n<p>Once inside, he felt the flames burning his face, but saving Mercedes was more important than anything else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI could feel it burning me,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got her and took my shirt off and put it around her face so she wouldn\u2019t breathe in any smoke and I just carried her out as fast as I could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3941\" src=\"https:\/\/www.viral-stories.online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/A2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"646\" height=\"414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As a result of his heroic deed, Derrick suffered second and third-degree burns on his face, back, and arms. His recovery took some time and he experienced a lot of pain, but he says he would do it again if he needs to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I got burnt, I really didn\u2019t care, though. I\u2019d rather get burnt than her. She\u2019s young. She\u2019s still got a lot of stuff going for her. She\u2019s a good kid,\u201d he told KOMO-TV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d run back in there and do it again even if I got burnt worse or died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on people calling him a hero, humble Derrick said, \u201cI can\u2019t say a hero.
