Unfortunately, we don\u2019t anticipate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheatsheet.com\/entertainment\/the-real-reason-ncis-didnt-remove-mark-harmon-opening-credits-11-months.html\/\">Mark Harmon\u2019s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs<\/a>, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job,\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em> creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.\u2018NCIS\u2019 creators considered A-listers to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs instead of Mark Harmon<\/h1>\n<p id=\"par-2_31\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheatsheet.com\/entertainment\/mark-harmon-once-went-off-script-on-ncis-and-got-physical-with-michael-weatherly.html\/\">Mark Harmon<\/a>\u00a0wasn\u2019t always who\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em> creators wanted to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that other A-list stars were considered for the roleCharles Floyd Johnson, executive producer for\u00a0<em>JAG<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em>, spoke about the casting challenges production initially faced. \u201cI know Harrison Ford was a name that everybody thought about for Gibbs because he was so perfect,\u201d Johnson told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/ncis-oral-history-cbs-1235593222\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. \u201cBut, I don\u2019t think it ever got further than, it was a name thrown out.\u201dPeter Golden, the former head of CBS casting, noted that the \u201cHarrison Fords of the world\u201d didn\u2019t often do TV at the time. But no name was off the table during those initial casting conversations. \u201cThat didn\u2019t mean you didn\u2019t put them on the list,\u201d Golden stated.<em>NCIS<\/em>\u00a0casting director Susan Bluestein stated she didn\u2019t remember Ford\u2019s name. Still, she did remember investigating other big-name celebs like Alec Baldwin, Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Kevin Bacon, Tom Berenger, Val Kilmer, Charlie Sheen, Aidan Quinn, Andrew McCarthy, and Patrick Swayze.\u00a0Scott Glenn was also heavily considered for the role of Ducky, but he passed on it.\u201cCasting was very challenging,\u201d Bluestein added. \u201cI cast Mark Harmon to play John Dillinger in a movie of the week in 1991, and he was terrific. Mark had been on my\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em>\u00a0list from day one. But he certainly had competition for the role.Ultimately, it was Harmon\u2019s past experience in<em>The West Wing<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Jag\u00a0<\/em>that likely got him the role. After seeing Harmon in\u00a0<em>The West Wing<\/em>, producer Donald P. Bellisario brought Harmon onto\u00a0<em>Jag<\/em>\u00a0as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 2003, and Harmon joined\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em>\u00a0later that same year. Five years later, Harmon worked as a producer and executive producer of NCIS, and he helped produce\u00a0<em>NCIS: New Orleans<\/em>.\u201cSusan [Bluestein] said, \u2018What about Mark Harmon?\u2019\u201d Peter Golden, former head of CBS casting, told The Hollywood Reporter. \u201cMark was a big deal, and everybody thought, \u2018We\u2019ll make an offer to Mark Harmon, and when we don\u2019t get him, let\u2019s go through the list of who else we could get.\u2019 Mark had a meeting with Don Bellisario, and they hit it off, and Mark agreed to do it. All of a sudden, the show took on much more importance in my mind.\u201dBluestein added that Bellisario wasn\u2019t completely confident in Harmon to play Gibbs at first. But Bluestein intended to push for Harmon.Will Leroy Jethro Gibbs appear in future episodes of \u2018NCIS<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheatsheet.com\/entertainment\/ncis-boss-admits-mark-harmon-hought-exit-would-be-the-death-of-the-show.html\/\">Mark Harmon likely won\u2019t appear<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em>\u00a0Season 21, which has a delayed premiere due to the writers\u2019 strike. Binder told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/1045788\/ncis-mark-harmon-gibbs-returning-opening-credits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TV Insider<\/a>\u00a0in May 2022. \u201cIt just has to be the right story, I think, to get him excited about it and to get us excited about it. It\u2019s a card to play, and I don\u2019t think we want to play it cheaply.
