Police tell TMZ that both law enforcement and fire officials responded to a call from his housekeeper just before 10 on Saturday morning. Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no foul play is suspected, and police are looking into this case as a natural death. Richard Simmons has died at the age of 76, TMZ is reporting.\u00a0TMZ is reporting<\/a> that a housekeeper called emergency officials Saturday morning and that Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

No other details were immediately available.<\/p>\n

The fitness guru stepped away from the spotlight 10 years ago but had stayed in touch with his fans on social media and shared updates about his life.<\/p>\n

He celebrated his 76th birthday just yesterday, July 12.<\/p>\n

He posted on Facebook<\/u><\/a> that it was a day where he\u2019d never received so many messages about his birthday in his life.<\/div>\n
In a rare interview,\u00a0he told People Magazine<\/u><\/a> ahead of his birthday that he was grateful to be here and was “alive for another day.”<\/div>\n
“I\u2019ll spend my birthday doing what I do every day, which is to help people.”<\/div>\n

Simmons began his career in fitness when he opened a gym in Los Angeles in the 1970s, and rose to fame in the \u201880s and \u201990s with his workout videos, “Sweatin\u2019 to the Oldies,” and flamboyant personality and costumes.<\/div>\n
He was a frequent guest on daytime and late night shows, and routinely advocated for health and exercise.<\/div>\n
Simmons\u2019 YouTube channel even released previous recordings of older workouts to encourage people to stay active during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.<\/div>\n
Simmons had big plans for the year ahead. His representative told Fox News Digital he was working on a Broadway musical.<\/div>\n

In March, Simmons revealed to his followers he had been diagnosed with skin cancer.<\/div>\n
He took to Facebook to detail the moment he found out about the diagnosis and the procedure he underwent in an attempt to remove the cancer cells.<\/div>\n

Simmons removed himself from the public eye in 2014, and his absence inspired the popular podcast “Missing Richard Simmons” in 2017.<\/div>\n
